Please note this feature exists on Windows 7, and probably not on any other earlier OS’s. Also, please note that this might not necessarily yield such a result. And obviously, although there are no noticeable adverse effects, do take caution when tampering with your system settings (aka, you must really screw up badly if this miraculously b0rks your box).
By default, Windows 7 “reserves” 20% of your bandwidth for itself. Although having little effect, this setting might be of use for those who want to “optimize” their internet connection speed.
Press “WIN + R” key to bring up the Run window. Type in “gpedit.msc” like the following screenshot:
You will be greeted with the “Local Group Policy Editor” window. Under “Computer Configuration,” expand the “Administrative Templates” tree, and also the “Network” tree. Finally, click on “QoS Packet Scheduler.” You do “NOT” need to expand the QoS Packet Scheduler tree. The screenshot with these steps:
Inside the main window, “right-click” and select “Edit” on the “Limit reservable bandwidth” option. Inside the window, select “Enabled” and under “Options:” in the “Bandwidth limit (%):” field, type the value “0.” Click “OK,” and you are done~!
