[GUIDE] Ventrilo Setup.
Setup
Note that this guide follows the Windows GUI which may differ from Mac.
- Download the software at “Ventrilo.com“. Go to the “Downloads” page and find the header “Client programs“. Find the appropriate program for your respective OS (most will be using Windows 32bit). Install it.
- Run the program after installing it. You will be greeted with the login screen. On the top field “Username“, create a new username by clicking “->“. Click “New” and type in your IGN (in game name). Click “OK” twice to finalize the creation.

- On the field below “Username“, click “->” for “Server“. Click “New” and type in “Seraph“. Press “OK“.

- “Hostname or IP” is often referred to as that. It ends with a typical domain name suffix such as “.com”, “.net”, “.org”, etc. Occasionally, it will be an IP address which is a series of numbers, for instance: “192.168.1.1″ or “255.255.255.0″.
- “Port number” is the port which the server connects to. Most servers will not have opened ALL ports which would lead to a serious security breach. You are required to type this number correctly or else you will not be able to connect.
- “Password” is fairly self-explanatory. Some servers do not have one.
- If all the information was correctly filled in, you will notice a new message in the center of the login screen: “MSG: Server is available. Please connect.“. Click the “Connect” button on the far right side to be connected to the ventrilo server.

How to Speak on Ventrilo
- Click on “Setup” on the login screen.

- Ensure the checkbox “Enable outgoing voice communications” is checked. This is crucial.
- Check “Use Push to Talk Hotkey (PTT Mode)“. This will allow you to be heard only when you press a button on your keyboard. The alternative relies on your microphone sensitivity which is not recommended. You may select the hotkey of your choice in the box that reads “Hotkey“.
- Under “Amplifiers“, you will notice “Outbound“. Move the slider to the appropriate direction to amplify or attenuate your voice.
- “Inbound” is the sound you are receiving. More than likely, some people will sound louder or softer than others. Realize, however, that this is a global option. It will not affect only individuals.
